Five Greenpoint Buildings Evacuated For Gas Leak: FDNY
Firefighters and utility workers are investigating the source of gas at 77 Freeman Street, officials said.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Two buildings on Freeman Street were evacuated Tuesday afternoon as emergency responders worked to investigate a gas leak, FDNY officials said.
Firefighters were called to 77 Freeman St. around 1:15 p.m. for reports of odors in the residential building, an FDNY spokesman said. Monitors of the air in the building detected gas and five buildings in the area were evacuated.
77 and 81 Freeman St. were evacuated at first, but as they continued to investigate fire officials evacuated 74, 79 and 89 Freeman St. as well, the spokesman said.

As of 3:15 p.m. there were no injuries related to the leak. FDNY was still working with utilities officials to determined the source, the spokesman said.
All the buildings are three-story residential properties, except for 89 Freeman St., which is four stories, records show.
