Yorktown expands uses permitted at Jefferson Valley Mall (westfaironline.com) — Yorktown has expanded the types of businesses allowed at Jefferson Valley Mall, clearing the way for craft breweries, amusement centers, and indoor recreation facilities. Town officials say the unanimous zoning change is meant to keep the mall vibrant as traditional retailers leave, and they expect new entertainment-focused tenants to sign leases and boost the local shopping corridor.
   

2. Three Queens men charged after alleged robbery outside TD Bank (halstonmedia.com) — Yorktown Police say three Queens men were arrested after a purse was forcibly taken outside the TD Bank on Lee Road, with more than $1,000 and credit cards reported stolen. County police located the suspects in White Plains and brought them to Yorktown Police Headquarters, where they now face felony robbery and larceny charges while awaiting arraignment.
   

3. Yorktown man charged after fatal shooting of dog sparks community outcry (news12.com) — Yorktown residents are reacting strongly after an unhoused local man’s dog was fatally shot near Route 118, leading to felony charges against another resident. Community members and town officials describe the loss as deeply upsetting, with many stopping by to support the owner and share memories of the well-known dog. The accused has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court on August 11.
   

4. Duo Steal Over $2.6K In Items From Lowe's In Yorktown Over Months: Police (dailyvoice.com) — Two Yorktown residents are accused of repeatedly stealing merchandise totaling more than $2,600 from the Lowe’s on Crompond Road in Yorktown Heights over several months. Police say the men were arrested, processed at Yorktown Police Headquarters, and released with appearance tickets. They’re scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on August 18.
   

5. Wolf Pac wins Summer Hoops League title in style (halstonmedia.com) — Mahopac’s Wolf Pac basketball squad just capped an undefeated run to win the Mahopac Summer Hoops League, including a decisive quarterfinal victory over Yorktown. Players say the strong summer showing, plus experience from a heartbreaking overtime loss to rival Yorktown last season, has them eyeing a deep postseason push this winter. Coaches credit depth and chemistry for the team’s growing confidence.
