1 Dead In Northern Westchester Fire

Firefighters battled the blaze as temperatures were soaring in the 90s.

YORKTOWN, NY — Firefighters from seven departments battled a blaze in the Yorktown home Sunday that resulted in the death of a 53-year-old man. The fire on Baldwin Road was reported at 4:51 p.m. as outdoor temperatures were in the 90s.

Yorktown police said they received a call from a Baldwin Road resident saying that his neighbor’s house was on fire.

Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene and began to fight the fire. They found a lone male occupant, who was unconscious.

The firefighters got the man out of the structure but he was dead, police said.

More than 75 fire and EMS personnel from Croton, Bedford Hills, Millwood, Mohegan, Ossining and Somers fire departments and the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Somers Ambulance Corps and Yorktown Paramedics were working at the scene.

Once the fire was under control, investigators from the Westchester County Fire Cause and Origin team, Yorktown firefights and Yorktown police detectives entered the house to begin a preliminary investigation.

How the fire started has not been determined.

The name of the 53-year-old male has not been released, pending notification of his family.
