12-Year-Old Accused Of Hitting, Shouting Racial Slur At Student

Police said the child would have been charged with a misdemeanor had be been an adult.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 12-year-old Yorktown boy was charged with juvenile delinquency, and police said he would have been charged with a misdemeanor had he been an adult. Police said the underlying charge would have been second-degree aggravated harassment.

On Tuesday, a school resource officer at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle school was assigned to investigate a harassment complaint.

With the assistance of school administrative staff, the officer said he found that the 12-year-old hit another student while calling him a racial slur.

The boy was issued an appearance ticket in the presence of his parent and was directed to appear at the Westchester County Department of Probation Oct. 24.
