2 Arrested For Damaging High School Lawn

Police said the damage was estimated at $2,000.

YORKTOWN, NY — Two area teenagers were arrested for driving trucks over a school lawn. Yorktown Police said James T. Houlahan, 17, of Yorktown, and Matthen H. Tuite, 18, of Shrub Oak, were charge with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony. Police said they responded July 16 to a complaint at Lakeland High School that vehicles drove over the lawn causing about $2,000 damage.

A Yorktown sergeant on routine patrol July 22 around 10:50 p.m. spotted a pick-up truck on East Main Street that matched a description of a vehicle observed in past criminal mischief and initiated a traffic stop. [Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts here.]

An investigation found that the driver of the pick-up truck, Houlahan, and Tuite allegedly drove their trucks across the high school’s grass causing damage.

Houlahan was arrested at the scene and taken to Police Headquarters for processing.

Tuite was contacted by police by phone. He voluntarily surrendered himself at Police Headquarters and was arrested.

They were arraigned and released on their own recognizance to return to Yorktown Justice Court July 25.
