2 Face Drug Possession Charges In Yorktown

Police said the drugs were found after a traffic stop.

YORKTOWN, NY — Two Westchester residents were accused of having drugs after a traffic stop. Yorktown police said Jose L. Colon Cotto Jr., 49, of Mount Kisco, and Sharon F. Godwin, 29, of Peekskill, both were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

Additionally, Cotto was charged with second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, and two traffic infractions.

Police said, around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, an officer said a car was seen failing to yield the right of way by making a prohibited right turn off of the Taconic State Parkway exit ramp onto Route 6.

The car, which was driven by Cotto, was stopped on Lee Boulevard. Godwin was a passenger.

The officer said the investigation, which involved the use of a K-9 certified in drug detection, found that they both had cocaine and Cotto had a drug paraphernalia item.

They were arrested and taken to the police department for processing.

After arraignment, Godwin was released on her own recognizance. Cotto was sent to the Westchester County Jail because he was charged with a felony and had two or more prior felony convictions.
