4 Cats Missing After Somers House Fire

Fire officials said the cause of the Tuesday blaze has not been determined.

SOMERS, NY — No injuries were reported but four pets are missing after an Oct. 2 house fire in Somers. Somers Fire District First Assistant Chief Jonathan Mackey said the volunteer fire department was dispatched at 9:44 p.m. Oct. 2 to a home on Anita Road for a reported structure fire with the possibility of people trapped.

On arrival at the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home. Officials quickly found that the home's sole occupant was out of the structure.

The fire escalated to a third alarm, with 75 firefighters at the scene.

Mackey said it was a "very manpower intensive fire with very dangerous firefighting conditions.

The blaze occurred while thunderstorms were affecting northern Westchester County.

Officials said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Four cats are unaccounted for from the fire.

The Somers Volunteer Fire Department was assisted on the scene by Westchester County DES Battalion 13 and the Cause and Origin Team, Yorktown Heights Fire Department, Golden's Bridge Fire Department, Mohegan Lake Fire Department, Somers EMS and Westchester EMS.
