Accused Of Driving With Cellphone, Without License

Police said her license had been suspended for failing to answer summonses.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Mohegan Lake woman was accused of driving without a license after being stopped for using a cellphone while driving. Yorktown police said Shamika J. Rivera, 25, of Mohegan Lake, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle while using a portable electronic device, a traffic infraction.

Police said, around noon June 21, an officer on routine patrol on Route 202 saw Rivera using a cellphone while driving.

The officer stopped the car and found that her license had been suspended for failing to answer several summonses.

Rivera was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

She was issued uniform traffic tickets and released on her own recognizance.

Rivera is due to appear in Yorktown Justice Court July 23.
