Acme Bids for A&P Stores in Yorktown, Mohegan, Shrub Oak, Goldens Bridge
The Pennsylvania-based grocery store chain wants to buy 76 stores including 17 in Putnam and Westchester.

Struggling supermarket chain A&P will sell 120 of its stores and close 25 more as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing Monday, the company announced.
The trade publication Supermarket News writes that the company will sell its Hudson Valley stores in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, and other nearby areas, to Acme Markets, Stop&Shop Supermarket Co. and Key Food Stores Co-Operative Inc.
Pennsylvania-based Acme is taking the lion share of those locations, as it buys 76 A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum’s and Superfresh stores.

“The vast majority of our stores remain open for business and we will continue to serve your shopping needs during this process,” the company stated.
