Businessman, Philanthropist To Be Honored By Westchester Bar Foundation
A Yorktown resident is being feted for helping provide legal aid for the underprivileged, including immigrants.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown resident Charles J. Newman, a prominent Hudson Valley business owner, fundraiser and donor, will be honored by the Westchester County Bar Foundation Nov. 15 for his years of service and contributions to its Fellowship Program. The testimonial dinner, now in its seventh year, is at the Coveleigh Club at Milton Point in Rye.
The Bar Foundation’s annual benefit dinner, which its president, Anthony J. Enea, Esq., calls “the primary charitable endeavor of the Foundation,” raises money to finance a two-year f,ellowship that, in turn, pays the salary of a public interest attorney.

“The Fellowship will enable me to practice immigration law,” said Leon. “Now, more than ever, immigrants need advocates that can adequately and zealously safeguard their rights.”
Leon recently graduated from the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains. This month, he began his Fellowship at The Westchester Hispanic Coalition in White Plains. Leon is the sixth Fellow since the WCBF program began in 2007, following in the footsteps of those who have provided thousands of hours of legal service to the underprivileged and indigent of Westchester.

“This has been made possible,” Enea said, “due to the generosity of Westchester’s legal community and its supporters.”
The Charles J. Newman Co., LLC, an associate member of the Bar Association, has been a long- time provider of Life and Health Insurance plans for its members.
Newman's insurance company, based in Peekskill, provides the same service to members of Westchester County Correction Officers Benevolent Association, Westchester County Superior Officers Association, and New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, among other organizations in its portfolio of clients.
“Chuck has been active with us for many years,” said Enea. “He is very generous and very supportive of the Westchester County Bar Foundation and the County Bar Association. For this year’s event, Chuck has donated a cruise on his boat, as well as his usual excellent effort of rounding up friends and colleagues to support our cause.”
Enea added that Chuck Newman “also has been instrumental in saving our Association a significant amount of money with Life and Health Insurance policies.”
Newman’s co-honoree is the Honorable Alan D. Schenkman, administrative judge for theNinth Judicial District, in which capacity he has jurisdiction over virtually all of the lower HudsonValley.
