Storms, Showers, Change Coming: Yorktown's Weekend Weather

SOMERS, NY — Very warm and humid conditions continue today with highs well into the 80s. Then showers and thunderstorms will be moving in at night into Saturday as low pressure approaches. And if you're headed upstate, check local weather for severe thunderstorms.

A cold front follows behind and with a persistent, very humid air mass, locally heavy rain will be possible, meteorologists said.

But then the changes come, said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "We should see a period of showers on Saturday morning, followed by clearing skies and drier air late on Saturday. Then some seasonably cool and very dry air to close out our weekend on Sunday."

A band of severe weather moving from the Mideast across central New York shouldn't get to the Hudson Valley until too late for conditions to create thunderstorms and tornadoes.

A brief, drenching downpour and a few rumbles of thunder is more likely to dot the corridor from New York City to Washington D.C. late Friday night into Saturday morning, according to Renee Duff, AccuWeather meteorologist.

Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Humid with lows around 70. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Saturday
Patchy fog in the morning. Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning, then mostly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming west with gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Mostly clear. Less humid with lows in the upper 50s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the evening.
