Dutchess Man Accused Of Driving Drunk With Child In Car

The man also faces a child endangerment charge, police said.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Dutchess County man was accused of driving drunk while a child was in the car.

The Yorktown Police Department said Osgual Omar Romero-Godoy, 20, of Stormville, was with, among other things, aggravated driving while intoxicated–child in car, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police said, shortly before midnight Sunday, an officer was sent to a one-car accident on Route 6 in the area of Curry street.

When he got to the scene, the officer said he determined that Romero-Godoy was the driver and there was a 1-year-old child in the car.

The child was not in a car seat, but was in the backseat restrained by a seatbelt, police said. The child had a cut on his mouth, and EMS was dispatched to the scene.

The mother of the child was contacted and arrived at the accident. The child was then taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation.

Police said Romero-Godoy had been driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle and was arrested.

He was also charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated, first offense, misdemeanor
  • Operate a motor vehicle with blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent, first offense, a misdemeanor
  • Rear passenger less than 4 years old seat violation, a traffic infraction
  • Speed unreasonable, a traffic infraction
  • Tinted windows, a traffic infraction

Romero-Godoy was processed and issued uniform traffic tickets and was released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Feb. 25.
