Florence Remains To Bring Hazardous Weather To Hudson Valley

Florence, now a tropical depression, is headed toward the Hudson Valley, having brought massive flooding conditions to the Carolinas and leaving at least 11 people dead. The National Weather Service said the forecast is calling for 1 to 1-1/2 inches of rain for the region.

Because of that forecast, the NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Hazardous weather is not expected for Sunday, but the heavy rain is likely to begin Monday afternoon and continue into early Tuesday evening.

While the most likely possibility is minor flooding from any heavy rainfall, there is still a low chance for mainly localized flash flooding.

Here is the forecast for the next few days from the NWS for northern Westchester:

• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind.
• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
• Monday Night: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 76. South wind around 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.
• Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 75.
• Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53.
