Freeze Warning, Frost Advisory Issued For Parts Of Hudson Valley

People should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Sub-freezing temperatures are in the forecast for parts of the Hudson Valley.

That has led the National Weather Service to issue a freeze warning for Rockland and northern Westchester counties.

The warning is in effect from midnight Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected.

Meteorologists said frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

People should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The freeze warning for Rockland and northern Westchester counties doesn't mean other areas won't get cold.

The weather service issued a frost advisory for southern Westchester with temperatures as low as 34 possible from midnight Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday. Those temperatures could result in the formation of frost.

Locations in Orange and Dutchess counties are forecast to see lows overnight around 28, while Ulster County could see 27 degrees.
