Frigid Vets Day Forecast For Yorktown

Layer up for parades and ceremonies. Here's what to expect through the weekend around Somers.

SOMERS, NY — High winds could cause tree damage, the National Weather Service warned Friday. Plus, the cold front that came in before dawn was ushering in much colder air which will settle on the Hudson Valley through the weekend and beyond.

The NWS said in an advisory:

Winds will gust up to 45 mph immediately following the passage of an arctic front this morning. This could result in the downing of some tree limbs or compromised trees, along with isolated power outages. Northwest winds will then gust to around 40 mph for the rest of the day, ushering in a much colder airmass which will allow temperatures drop into the 30s. Wind chills will fall into the teens and 20s as a result.

"A very cold night ahead, with lows in the upper teens and low 20s… and then things begin to moderate on Saturday and Sunday, but slowly," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.
