Get Outside Quick: Yorktown's Weekend Weather

Here are the details about when to change in and out of sweaters and raincoats around Somers.

SOMERS, NY — Friday's warmth will begin to dissipate Saturday afternoon. By Saturday night, it could be sleeting. By Sunday night, thunderstorms. So get outside quickly.

According to the National Weather Service, the problem Saturday will be the timing of a back door cold front dropping into the Hudson Valley from eastern Canada.

Anyone planning outdoor activities on what should start off as a mild day should be prepared for much cooler air to arrive at some point in the afternoon, as temps should drop a good 10-15 degrees in the span of an hour or two, especially north and east of NYC, with temps by sunset in the lower 60s in NYC, 50s most elsewhere, and mid/upper 40s across eastern CT/Long Island.

By Saturday night, temps will be back in the 30s. And sleet could mix in with light rain. Then heavy rain will develop Sunday night into Monday, with thunder possible.

And if you're traveling at all this weekend, there's a lot of extreme weather going on elsewhere in the country. Airline passengers should anticipate flight delays due to blizzard conditions in the Great Plains; an ice storm across the Great Lakes, Toronto, upstate New York and New England; and storms with possible tornadoes from the central and southern plains to Ohio, said meteorologists with AccuWeather.com
