Heat Builds In Hudson Valley; Advisories Issued
Within a few days, there could be dangerous heat conditions all around the region.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The heat is on in the Hudson Valley and will keep building over the next couple of days.
Heat advisories are in effect for the mid- and lower Hudson Valley.
For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the heat advisory runs from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The highest temperatures and heat index values are expected to occur between noon and 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the heat advisory is also from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m Wednesday.

However, there is an excessive heat watch set to go into effect from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Breaking it down, under the heat advisory, heat index values up to 105 degrees are expected. For the excessive heat watch, the mid-Hudson Valley can expect heat index values up to 105 and 110.
During the high heat and humidity, meteorologists said people throughout the Hudson Valley should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
For Tuesday, throughout the region, a chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast.
Here is the forecast through the remainder of the workweek for northern Westchester:
- Tuesday: A slight chance of showers between noon and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind around 6 mph.
- Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 99. Southwest wind around 7 mph.
- Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.
- Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
- Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
- Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 91.
- Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
