Heavy Rain, T-Storms: Hudson Valley Holiday Weekend Weather

Brace yourselves for a possible washout weekend, but enjoy the part of Friday that will be warm and dry. Forecasts are calling for heavy rains from a storm system that led to flash floods and thunderstorms in the southern part of the country.

"Showers will only encroach into New England during the second half of the day (Friday), but residents across New York and Pennsylvania will already be in the midst of drenching, gust thunderstorms by then," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Edwards.

Flash flood watches are in effect for the entire Hudson Valley, with the mid-Hudson Valley under a watch from 8 p.m. Friday through 2 p.m. Saturday.

The lower Hudson Valley's watch begins at 2 a.m. Saturday and ends 12 hours later.

Showers are in the forecast Friday afternoon with the possibility of thunderstorms later Friday and overnight.

Here's a look at when things can be expected.

The forecast for northern Westchester through the weekend from the National Weather Service is as follows:

• Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 69. South wind 9 to 11 mph.
• Friday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 62. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 65. South wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light southeast after midnight.
• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. South wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.
