Two days after Pier 1 announced it would close hundreds of stores, another major retailer has announced it will close stores across the country, including two in New York. Macy's announced it will close at least 28 stores in the next couple months, according to local media reports.

The ones that will be closed in New York are in Hicksville and Commack, both on Long Island.

Stores in the Hudson Valley were spared this time. There are Macy's stores in White Plains, Yonkers and Yorktown Heights in Westchester County, West Nyack in Rockland and Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County.

In August 2016, Macy’s said it would close 100 stores. Since that announcement, the retail chain has been closing locations as their leases expire. However, when reached by Business Insider, a Macy’s representative did not comment on whether the latest stores were part of its planned closures from 2016.

Macy's is part of a growing list of brick-and-mortar establishments that have nosedived in revenue and popularity with the emergence of e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Walmart.
