Man Charged With Criminal Mischief In Wake Of Domestic Dispute

Police said the man took the woman's cellphone which prevented her from calling the police.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Shrub Oak man faces criminal charges after being accused of threatening a woman and preventing her from calling the police. Yorktown police said the 52-year-old was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and one count of petit larceny, all misdemeanors.

Police said that around 11:21 p.m. Jan. 10 an officer was sent to investigate a domestic incident at a Yorktown residence.

It was found that the man got into a verbal fight with the victim and broke her lamp, police said.

She locked herself in the bathroom to contact the police, but he banged on the door, breaking the frame, and took the woman’s cellphone, police said.

Police said he left the residence with the phone, preventing the woman from calling the police.

The suspect was arrested at his home at 12:25 a.m. Jan. 11.

He was arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court. The judge issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 23.
