Man Fires Rifle In His Home, Damages Neighbor's House: Police

Police said the bullet which traveled from one house to the next caused more than $1,500 in damage.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 21-year-old man was accused of firing a rifle inside his home that caused damage to his neighbor's residence. Yorktown police said Connor Scanlan, 21, of Yorktown, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief, felonies, and prohibited use of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a Yorktown home to investigate a report of gun shots fired into a house.

The officers said that Scanlan fired a rifle inside his house. The bullet went through his home, penetrating the side of his neighbor's house, police said.

The bullet lodged inside the neighbors home, causing more than $1,500 in damage, according to authorities.

Scanlan was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department.

After processing, he was arraigned by a judge, who issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.

Scanlan was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 18.
