Yorktown Detective Sergeant Jim Graham and New York Yankees two-time World Series Champion centerfielder Mickey Rivers will take center stage in Yorktown Oct. 13 at the annual Harrison Apar Yorktown Athletic Club Columbus Day Family Golf Classic at Mohansic Golf Course.

Sponsored by the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation in partnership with Yorktown Athletic Club, proceeds from the charity event benefit local recreation and education. The family-themed event is open to the public at county-owned Mohansic Golf Course, 1500 Baldwin Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.

A 22-year veteran of the Yorktown Police Department, Sgt. Graham will be presented the annual Harrison Apar YAC PBA Community Service Award, presented in affiliation with the Yorktown Police Benevolent Association, that recognizes outstanding volunteers. Sgt. Graham, who is Detective Bureau Supervisor, has coached lacrosse, football and softball for Yorktown Athletic Club. He and wife Lisa have two sons, Austin and Robert, and daughter Elizabeth.

The tournament offers special pricing for junior golfers, and this year is adding special family discount rates. For details, email harrisonapar@gmail.com to be added to the mailing list; call or text (914) 275-6887; or visit yacsports.com.

Also scheduled to appear are the reigning Miss Westchester Nadia Manginelli and Miss Hudson Valley April Maroshick.

Hosting retired Major League Baseball stars from the Yankees and Mets has been a trademark of the popular charity fundraiser since 2009, when famed pitcher Tommy John was on hand.

Rivers, known as “Mick the Quick” and “the fastest Yankee of all time,” starred on the 1977 and 1978 World Series title teams. Like he did in Yankee Stadium’s “Death Valley” outfield, Rivers will roam the golf course all day, visiting foursomes, signing autographs and taking photos, as well as speak and answer questions at the awards dinner at Mohansic Grill.

Rivers was a feared lead-off hitter and base-stealer who had a regular-season .326 batting average in 1977, following a year when he received the third-most votes in the 1976 MVP voting, behind winner George Brett and teammate Thurman Munson. His career post-season batting average is .308. While on the Texas Rangers, Rivers set the franchise’s single-season mark for hits, recently eclipsed by Michael Young.

Major leaguers who have appeared at past Harrison Apar YAC Golf Classics include Mets Rusty Staub, Jerry Koosman, Bud Harrelson and Howard Johnson, plus Yankees’ Chris Chambliss, Rick Cerrone and last year’s Bucky Dent.Mickey Rivers, Sgt. Jim Graham Headline Harrison Apar YAC Golf Classic
