NEW YORK — We changed the clocks to daylight saving time and we officially saw spring begin Sunday. So we're out of the woods in New York as far as snow is concerned, right?

Well, hold my shovel.

Meteorologists at AccuWeather.com said that two-thirds of the United States could still see some snow in the forecast.

"A few more storms will track from the Northwest to the southern Rockies then cutting across the Plains and the Ohio Valley through early April," said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

He said the active storm track — combined with additional waves of cold air from the north — could mean snow after spring's official start for New York City, as well as some other northern locales.

Of course, to have snow you need cold temperatures and precipitation.

The National Weather Service issued its April-May-June 2022 seasonal outlook that calls for above-normal total precipitation for the mid-Atlantic and Northeast as well as above-normal temperatures.

If that sounds encouraging, then let's check with the Farmer's Almanac which has issued its own spring forecast for the United States.

For the region covered by New York City, Long Island and Westchester County, the weather conditions for March 20 to March 24 will be warm with showers. The final week of March will turn cooler with rainy periods.

Showers with rain and a few thunderstorms, with high temperatures averaging 57 degrees, are features of April for the region.

For the eastern part of New York, from Putnam County north, the Almanac said rainy and warm periods through March 24 can be expected. Periods of rain and snow, along with chilly temps, are in the forecast through the end of the month. Keep in mind the average temperature during March for this part of the state will be only 40 degrees.

And a quick check of the National Weather Service forecast for Sunday in Poughkeepsie mentioned the possibility of rain and snow showers.

Even April has the "S" word in the Almanac's long-range forecast for Putnam northward.

For the first four days of the month, the forecast said it will be chilly with rain and snow showers. After that, temperatures begin going up, but thunderstorms and showers are possible.

The average temp for the month of April in the region will be 48 degrees, the Almanac said.
