Phone Scammer Arrested In Yorktown: PD
The person who received the scam phone call notified the police.
YORKTOWN, NY — A New York City man was accused of using a phone scam to try to steal money from a Yorktown resident. Yorktown police said Marco Tulio Ramirez, 42, of Queens, was charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, a felony.
Police said they received a complaint around 3 p.m. Sept. 25 from a Yorktown resident that he had received a "family member under arrest" phone scam.
The resident said he had gotten a call from someone saying his son was under arrest and would be released after $8,800 bail was paid to a courier.

Police assigned to investigate the incident arranged for the courier to get the money from the victim at his residence.
Around 7:15 p.m., Ramirez showed up at the victim's home and received a package believing it contained the payment.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
After arraignment in the Yorktown Justice Court, Ramirez was held on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to reappear in court Oct. 1.
