Polly Cooper, NSDAR Visits Yorktown Revolutionary War Monuments

The Daughters of the American Revolution, in preparation for America 250! are connecting with local history

The Polly Cooper Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution spent the day exploring historic landmarks and monuments in Northern Westchester including those associated with the Battle of Pines Bridge in Yorktown.

The 1st Presbyterian Church in Yorktown ( then called Hanover) actually served as a military depot for the patriots during the War for Independence.

Two wonderful monuments are located in the cemetery. One monument dedicated to patriots Col. Christopher Greene and Major Ebenezer Flagg and the second monument dedicated to the memory of the patriots of color in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment who perished during the Battle of Pines Bridge on May 13, 1781 in the defense of America's freedom.

The monument depicts members of 1st Rhode Island Regiment, a Caucasian, an African American and a Native American showing the racial and ethnic diversity of all those who fought in the Revolutionary War.
