Powerful Nor'easter In Hudson Valley Forecast

Parts of the region are under a Hazardous Weather Outlook.

A powerful coastal storm — a nor'easter — is brewing that could bring a mix of snow, sleet and rain to the Hudson Valley Sunday night into Monday.

Keep in mind we are talking about a storm that is a few days away, so things could very well change.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Westchester County.

Strong easterly winds are expected from late Sunday night into Monday night as the storm intensifies and moves up the coast, the NWS said.

The forecast is saying that there could be moderate coastal flooding if the highest surge coincides with the higher of the daily high tides for Monday morning or Tuesday morning.

Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said it is too early to call what exactly will occur with the nor'easter.

The setup is a bit complex, with some cold air trying to sneak in from New England, as a coastal storm develops,” he said. “Right now, we may see a light mix of snow, sleet and rain… changing to a plain rain, with minimal accumulation.”

Potter did say that, whether we get rain or snow, “the storm does look to have an impact on the Hudson Valley.”

For Thursday, the Hudson Valley is looking at partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-40s. Overnight, it will be mostly cloudy with temperatures dipping to just below freezing.

On Friday, we can expect some mid-afternoon showers, but the temperature will be relatively mild for this time of year, with highs in the mid-40s.
