Putnam Man Accused Of Having Illegal Drugs, Impaired Driving

Police said the man had a suspended license due to the failure to pay child support as well.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Putnam County resident was accused of having illegal drugs and driving under the influence. Yorktown police charged Keith Matthews, 36, of Putnam Valley, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors, and traffic violations, including having an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and failing to stay in his lane.

Police said, around 2 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to the area of Old Yorktown Road (Route 132) and Strang Boulevard for the report of a motor vehicle accident.

The investigation found Matthews was driving under influence of drugs and had a quantity of alprazolam, which is a controlled substance, police said.

Besides driving an uninsured and unregistered car, police said Matthews' drivers license had been suspended for failure to pay child support.

He was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.

Matthews was released on his own recognizance to a responsible third party and is due back in the Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 22.
