Putnam Valley Man Accused Of Robbery, Assault

Police said the man punched the other person multiple times and took his cell phone.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Putnam Valley man was accused of robbing and assaulting another person at a gas station. Yorktown police said Arthur V. Coppola Jr., 53, of Putnam Valley, was charged with third-degree robbery, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Police said, shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, officers were called to a fight in progress at the Courtesy Shell gas station on East Main Street.

When they got there, officers spoke with the victim who said that a man had attacked him by the gas pumps and punched him in the face and body several times.

The victim also told police that the man had pushed him and taken his cell phone out of his hand so he couldn't call for help.

Police said the man left the area before they arrived.

Officers canvased the area for the man and his car, the latter of which was found parked and empty at another location in Yorktown.

After further investigation, Coppola was identified as the suspect and was located and arrested.

He was taken to the Yorktown Police Department for processing. The judge issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.

Coppola was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 13.
