Smoky Smell In Northern Westchester From NJ Forest Fire

Fire officials in Yorktown Height said that hopefully Sunday's rain will help knock down the fire and dissipate the smell.

YORKTOWN, NY — Some people around northern Westchester are experiencing a strong smell of smoke around the Yorktown area. According to a Facebook post from the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department, the odor is coming from a forest fire in New Jersey.

"Hopefully today's rain will aide the crews working down south and help the odor to dissipate," the post said.

The fire department added that, if anyone sees smoke or believes a true emergency is happening, they should call 911.

According to an article posted on Barnegat-Manahawkin Patch, the forest fire broke out in the Barnegat area Saturday and has grown to more than 1,000 acres.
