Somers Firefighters Contain Gas Leak

SOMERS, NY — Somers firefighters were able to prevent a potentially catastrophic incident Saturday. Shortly after 9 a.m., the Somers Volunteer Fire Department was sent to Somers Commons because of an outdoor gas odor.

When they got there, firefighters found there were high readings of a gas in front of the building, according to the department's Facebook page.

Fire personnel forced their way into stores and found and contained the leak.

Authorities said the gas readings were close to the explosive limit and could have been potentially catastrophic.

The building was ventilated for 90 minutes, firefighters said.
