Steamy, Then Stormy, Then Relief: Yorktown's Work Week Weather

SOMERS, NY — It's a Bermuda high, that's what's causing these very humid conditions. Things will change on Tuesday, forecasters promise, but cooler temps will be accompanied by thunderstorms and the possibility of heavy rain and damaging winds.

First, Monday highs. Temps will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s for much of the area. Combined with the humidity, it will feel like the middle to upper 90s, mainly across western portions of the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City, and Northeast New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.

A passing shower or thunderstorms is possible anywhere in the tri-state.

Conditions will continue to be hot and humid, mainly for the New York City metro area, on Tuesday where heat indices of 95 to 99 are once again possible, the NWS said.

"Be sure to stay cool and hydrated, and have a great start to the work week!" said the boys at Hudson Valley Weather.

Then an approaching cold front will bring better chances for showers and thunderstorms to the entire area, continuing into Tuesday night. Heavy rain will be associated with the thunderstorms, along with strong to possibly damaging winds for a few of the strongest storms.

With plenty of moisture available in the atmosphere, any of these storms will have the potential to result in heavy downpours that could lead to flash flooding, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott.

Toward the end of the work week, cooler air will bring relief.

• Tonight-Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the evening. Humid with lows in the lower 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
• Tuesday-Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Humid with highs in the mid 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
• Tuesday Night-Mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly in the evening. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall in the evening. Lows in the mid 60s. West winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of rain 70 percent.
• Wednesday-Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Wednesday Night-Mostly clear. Lows around 60.
• Thursday-Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s.
• Thursday Night-Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s.
• Friday-Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s.
• Friday Night-Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s.
