Temps Look Back: Yorktown's Weekend Weather

Spring is so close to Somers but yet so far

SOMERS, NY — The vernal equinox is Tuesday but before we get there the Hudson Valley will go through a cold winter weekend. Unseasonably cool temperatures are forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. On the bright side, they'll be accompanied by dry conditions.

What's causing it: a cold front will cross the region Saturday afternoon and will be followed by high pressure settling over the region on Sunday.

Daytime temperatures will range from the upper 30s to the middle 40s with the warmest day on Saturday. Nighttime temperatures will generally be in the 20s.

"Be sure to bundle up and stay warm… and we’ll have more updates once or twice a day as we continue to track the threat for a mid week storm next week," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

The unseasonably cold conditions over the past few weeks have led the National Park Service to push back the peak bloom dates for Washington, D.C.’s popular cherry blossoms. The peak bloom period was initially projected to fall between March 17 and 20, as was announced on March 1. The National Park Service defines the peak bloom date as the point at which 70 percent of the Yoshino cherry blossoms are open. Officials with the National Mall and Memorial Parks revealed via social media on Monday that the window has been updated to March 27-31.
