Timeline For Potentially Severe Storms; What To Expect

YORKTOWN, NY — It's going to be another stormy August night in the Hudson Valley with potentially severe thunderstorms in the forecast. "Severe thunderstorm development is possible this afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service says.

"The primary threat is damaging winds, however an isolated tornado is also possible. There is also a low flash flood threat with the heaviest storms," meteorologists said.

Any thunderstorms should weaken after midnight, but may not completely dissipate like in the early summer.

And Saturday will see showers and thunderstorms as well.

Here's the full forecast from the National Weather Service for northern Westchester:

• Friday Afternoon: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. South wind around 8 mph.
• Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. West wind around 7 mph.
• Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
• Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Northeast wind around 8 mph.
• Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.
