Tornado Watch In Effect For Parts Of Hudson Valley

A flash flood warning was also issued for the lower Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A tornado watch has been issued for parts of the Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service said the tornado watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday.

The watch covers Rockland and Westchester counties.

Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Review and discuss your emergency plans and check supplies and your safe room, the National Weather Service says. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in MarylandWednesday afternoon and there have been suspected tornadoes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well.

A flash flood warning was also issued for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties. It is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

At 6:51 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain moving north across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
