Traffic Light To Replace Blinking Caution Lights At Yorktown Intersection

A coalition of public officials lobbied the DOT to make the change.

YORKTOWN, NY — A flashing yellow light will be replaced with a three-color traffic signal in Yorktown at the intersection of Route 118 and Route 129. Poor sight lines led constituents of state Senator Terrence Murphy to lobby the state Department of Transportation to install the new device.

According to a press release, Murphy worked in conjunction with Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace and the town board to get the DOT to conduct a signal study. [Get Patch’s Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts here.]

“This light will improve the safety of a dangerous intersection and will make it a friendlier section of the road for motorists,” Murphy said in a prepared statement.

Grace who lives around the corner from the intersection said he has witnessed near-misses at the intersection.

“As a town board, we continue to address potential hazards on our roadways and work with our partners on the state level to facilitate real solutions,” he said.
