Two Official Candidates for 94th District Seat

The state assembly district includes Somers, Southeast and Yorktown.

With Steve Katz not seeking re-election, there are several people interested in running for the 94th Assembly District, which includes Carmel, Patterson, Putnam Valley, Somers, Southeast and Yorktown.

Topping the list of potential Republican contenders are Suzi McDonough, a Carmel councilwoman, and Kevin Byrne, a former aide to former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth.

McDonough declared her intentions in January.

Byrne kicked off his campaign at the end of February in front of supporters including Katz.

Both are Mahopac residents and Putnam County natives. McDonough graduated from Mahopac High School, Byrne from Carmel High School.

McDonough is hosting "Coffees with Suzi" to meet voters. The next one is 8:30-9:30AM March 26 at the Seven Stars Diner in Brewster.

“We are excited to be running in an open seat, yet whether the incumbent was in or out, I have always been in this race to win it," McDonough said in a prepared statement. "The hard working voters of this district deserve a serious, conservative voice who is truly committed to public service for the right reasons. While I am pro life, pro second amendment and a solid fiscal conservative, I will serve as a loyal public servant to all of my constituents, and on both sides of the aisle.”

Byrne was just endorsed by former Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy.

“Having served as town supervisor for over a decade and a half, I understand what’s important to the people who call our district home,” said Murphy in a prepared statement. "Our quality of life is being eroded steadily by crushing taxes, ridiculous regulations, and Albany’s corruption and inefficiency. Kevin Byrne will do his utmost every day to lift burdens and make our state government accountable and effective."
