Yorktown High School Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian for Class of 2017
Both students said they were surprised by the honor.
YORKTOWN, NY — The valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2017 class at Yorktown High School have been announced.
According to school officials, Noor Nassar is the valedictorian and Sidharth Anand will be the salutatorian.
Nassar cried and called her mother when she found out the news, a school press release said.

“I am an emotional person and did not expect to receive this honor,” she said. “This was a nice surprise and I feel very proud.”
Nassar describes herself as a student of biology and chemistry and that she loves English and social studies.

She is a sprinter on the varsity track and field team and has a black belt in Taekwondo.
Nassar hopes to become a pediatrician. To that end, she has volunteered in local hospitals helping patients and working on public information programs to encourage people to make healthy choices.
Anand said he was surprised to learn he was named salutatorian.
“There are so many very bright students in this class,” he said. “We all support one another, and so where we rank among our peers comes down to a matter of numbers.”
Anand said he was a science and humanities students and is engaged in doing research on cancer to study likely causes and reasons people have relapses.
He is the captain of the boys varsity tennis team and also plays the clarinet.
Anand has played numerous concerts of both western and Indian classical music.
