Yorktown Man Accused Of Knocking Victim Out

Police said the incident happened in front of two children.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown man was arrested after he was accused of knocking another person unconscious. Police said Samid Gjonbalaj, 24, of Yorktown, was charged with third-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

Police said they received a call around 3:40 p.m. May 10 about a domestic incident at a Yorktown home.

Several police personnel responded and found that Gjonbalaj struck the victim in the head with a closed fist, rendering the person unconscious for a period of time.

Police said the incident took place in the presence of two children who are under the age of 17.

Gjonbalaj was also in possession of some Xanax, authorities said.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

Gjonbalaj was arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court, where bail was set at $250 bail or $1,000 bond.

A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf o the victim.

Gjonbalaj posted bail and was released. He is scheduled to next appear in court May 14.
