Yorktown Man Faces Two Charges In Putnam County

He was stopped on Oscawana Lake Road for driving a car with a loud exhaust and a headlight out.

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports the arrest of a 40-year-old Danbury woman and a 33-year-old Shrub Oak man for driving under the influence in Putnam County.

At 2:33 a.m. April 21 on Route 6 in Southeast, Sergeant Timothy Keith stopped a car driven by Karla C. Gomes of Danbury. Police said she was observed driving erratically.

Gomes was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Having a BAC greater than .08% and other traffic violations.

At 8:21 p.m. April 23, while on patrol in Putnam Valley, Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich stopped a vehicle on Oscawana Lake Road that had a loud exhaust and a headlight out. Radovich said he could smell marihuana coming from the driver, Peter P. Cancro of Shrub Oak.

After Cancro failed several sobriety tests, Radovich, a certified Drug Recognition Evaluater (DRE), arrested him and impounded his car. A pipe containing THC was also found in the car, police allege.

Cancro was charged with the misdemeanors Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and several traffic violations.
