Yorktown Salutatorian Marlee Pincus Strives To Be Health-Care Pro
Pincus said she is ready to explore what lies beyond the walls of Yorktown High School.

YORKTOWN, NY — This year's salutatorian for the Yorktown High School Class of 2018 is Marlee Pincus. Patch asked Pincus to answer a few questions about her high school experience and what she looks forward to in the future.
1. What will you miss most about high school?
Although I am ready to explore what else lies beyond the walls of Yorktown High School, there are many things I will miss about this place. YHS has provided such a supportive community of educators and peers that has allowed me to thrive. All of the teachers are willing to go the extra mile to see their students thrive. I will miss the comfortable and collaborative community that this school develops.
2. What are you looking forward to in moving on to college?
Next year, I will be attending Cornell University where I intend to major in “Biology and Society” with a minor in Spanish. This major will allow me to view modern-day biology from a scientific, ethical, social and political standpoint. I cannot wait to take unique classes that are designed specifically for my area of interest. I am also very excited to meet people from all different backgrounds with countless different interests. The opportunities are endless.

3. What was your favorite high school class?
I have taken many fascinating classes throughout my high school career. Although I am a very math/science oriented individual, I surprisingly really enjoyed my AP US history class with Mr. Kennedy. Despite the countless hours of work that this class required, I felt that it really pushed me as a student. This class allowed me to develop the ability to synthesize coherent arguments from numerous sources.
4. What clubs or extracurriculars were you involved in?
Throughout high school I took advantage of the many extracurriculars and clubs YHS had to offer. I was co-president of the Amnesty International Club (an organization that promotes human rights throughout the world) and co-founder/president of The Beat the Hunger Club (an organization that raises awareness about hunger both locally and internationally). In addition, I am a peer tutor in the writing center and I enjoy interning in a seventh-grade Spanish class as well as in the life-skills department. Finally, I enjoy running cross country and racewalking on our school’s track team.

5. What advice would you give to underclassmen?
I would tell the underclassmen to get involved and make connections throughout the YHS community. The bonds I have formed with teachers and the extracurriculars I have participated in defined by high school experience and provided me with so many opportunities.
6. Any teachers/staff who stood out throughout your journey?
Throughout my high school career, I have had many phenomenal teachers. One of my favorites included my AP Calculus teacher, Ms. Froats. She is so dedicated to her job and motivates her students in a way no other teacher has.
7. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have graduated from both college and medical school. I intend to work as some type of health-care professional who promotes public health amongst the underserved Spanish speaking community.
8. Tell us a fun fact about you.
I am a racewalker on my school’s track team and I can walk a mile in about eight minutes!
