Yorktown School Superintendent To Retire

Of his 43-year career, 11 years were spent as superintendent in Yorktown.

YORKTOWN, NY — The Yorktown Central School District will be looking for a new superintendent of schools.

The Board of Education announced that Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Napolitano will retire effective July 10, 2017.

Napolitano has been superintendent for the past 11 years. Throughout his 43-year career in education in the New York metro area, he has worked as a teacher, college professor, department chairperson, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent.

“I have had the privilege of working with an amazing Board of Education, an outstanding administrative team, an excellent faculty and staff, and a wonderful group of parents and students,” he said in a letter to faculty and staff. “I have been blessed to work in a profession that is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children.”

A board statement said that Napolitano has served the district with dedication and commitment and “has led it with intelligence, insight, excellence and a sense of humor.”

Board of Education President Jackie Carbone Napolitano will be a difficult person to replace.

“We will be forever grateful to Dr. Napolitano for all he has done for our Yorktown community,” she said. “He is a person of tremendous integrity and honesty, he has strengthened and enhanced our educational programs, with a focus towards developing students who will be caring, compassionate, contributing world citizens.”
