Yorktown's Weather: Snow Estimates Rise

SOMERS, NY — Well that escalated quickly. On Sunday, snow accumulation estimates for a mid-week storm in the Hudson Valley called for light snow Tuesday. A day later and the National Weather Service has put out a Winter Weather Advisory for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester effective 10 a.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Snow accumulation estimates are jumping — Hudson Valley Weather ahead of the pack, just as they were before the bomb cyclone, predicting 3-6 inches possible across the region. It's also possible there could be school cancellations and delays Wednesday morning.

The snow is expected to get going Tuesday, light at first but then becoming heavier.

"Motorists should be prepared for changing conditions during the Tuesday evening rush hour and Tuesday night," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.

Here's the NWS's work week forecast for northern Westchester:

• Tuesday-Cloudy. A chance of snow in the morning, then snow likely in the afternoon. Snow accumulation around an inch. Highs in the lower 30s. Southeast winds around 5 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent.
• Tuesday Night-Snow likely. Total snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. Near steady temperature in the upper 20s. South winds around 5 mph, becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of snow 70 percent.
• Wednesday-Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow, mainly in the morning. Highs in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 50 percent.
• Wednesday Night-Partly cloudy. Lows around 15. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Thursday-Sunny. Highs in the lower 30s.
• Thursday Night-Mostly clear. Lows around 20.
• Friday-Sunny. Highs in the mid 30s.
• Friday Night-Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 20s.
