The Grey Eagle Music Hall and Pub

-LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE ANZA ANZA is a high vibe sister duo consisting of 14 yo Anzi &amp; 17 yo Anna Rivers. Song writing and composing has been a life long passion. Born in Colorado and raised between the high mountain desert landscapes of the Rockies and the lush, ancient mountains of Western North Carolina, the sisters draw deep inspiration from the natural world and the communities that have shaped them. Their musical journey began in the womb into childhood with weekly ecstatic dance, nightly improvised lullabies, bedtime stories sung instead of read, family dance nights and conscious summer music festivals. Their lives have been filled with backyard campfire jam sessions, conversations that reach beyond cultural norms, and impromptu performances in living rooms, art galleries, and community gatherings. Since the age of five, Anna and Anzi have studied with Jeremy Dittus at the Dalcroze School of the Rockies, cultivating a deep musical foundation that led them to piano, guitar, composition, and performance. Their educational journey has included Waldorf education, homeschooling, forested Co-ops and inner city high schooling. This has allowed them to explore a wide range of artistic, cultural, and academic studies. ANZA has performed throughout Western North Carolina at venues including Ayuprana Listening Room, LEAF Global, White Horse Black Mountain, Grey Eagle, and Salvage Station. They have shared their music at festivals, ceremonies, retreats, and around countless campfires and stages with artists such as Max Ribner, Paul Izak, Tubby Love, Shylah Ray Sunshine and The Freedom Family Band. ANZA has sung alongside MaMuse, Samara Jade, Aimée Ringle, and Micaela Kingslight during Circle Revival Gatherings, an immersive six-hour musical ceremony attended by over 1,100 participants. They have spent significant time recording in professional studios with Max Ribner and Roots Grown Deep and have received encouragement and praise from Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jim Lauderdale and acclaimed songwriter Marty Dodson. A UK radio station recently described their debut album, Break Through, as: “With a clear ’60s influence, reminiscent of the style and storytelling associated with Joni Mitchell, which is surprisingly rare in artists of this age. The harmonies are a real standout, and the vocals have a warmth and confidence that genuinely evoke that era rather than simply imitate it. It feels timeless rather than retro for the sake of it.”

RAINBOW GIRLS The Rainbow Girls are an eclectic folk, Americana, and indie-rock trio from Northern California, featuring core members Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey, and Vanessa May. Known for their soul-touching four-part harmonies and a “stomp-folk” sound, the multi-instrumentalists easily switch between guitars, ukulele, accordion, harmonica, and percussion during their energetic live shows.
The group was formed in 2010 at an underground open mic called “Bean Night” in Isla Vista, California. Living together in a dorm known as the “Rainbow House” near the University of California, Santa Barbara, the band initially started as a collective of female musicians before evolving into a trio. They honed their grassroots following by busking on the streets of Europe and playing at local farmers’ markets before eventually relocating to the countryside just north of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Known to describe themselves as “a gang of sweet angels punching you in the heart,” the Rainbow Girls prioritize community, resilience, and genuine audience connection. “Play on, there’s no such thing as better days,” Damien Jurado sings on “Roger,” the sweeping wash of a song that opens Reggae Film Star, his 18th full length album and second release from Jurado’s own Maraqopa Records label. But as he enters his 25th year as a recording artist, it’s clear these are, at the least, very good days for Jurado on the creative front. In these 12 songs, which evoke half-recalled dreams and overheard conversations, the cosmic rushes headlong into the autobiographical and specific moments on the clock fade from past to future to scenes set only in the eternal now. Playing out like a backlot documentary filmed on the location of an unnamed TV or film set—maybe a sitcom taping, or perhaps it’s a low budget science fiction B-movie, or could it be a talk show?—the album is populated by performers awaiting call times, camera operators praying for their shot, and studio audiences rapt with anticipation. The stars here eschew glitz and glamor. Instead, they wander grocery stores and parking lots in the verdant Pacific Northwest and the desert Southwest, looking for payphones and a sense of purpose. Produced by Jurado with multi-instrumentalist Josh Gordon and recording engineer Alex Bush at Sonikwire studio in Irvine,CA, Jurado’s home away from home and musical headquarters, the record’s compositions are among the most musically rich in his vast discography, encompassing romantic AM gold, ‘60s psychedelia, driving rock &amp; roll, Latin shuffles, and left of the dial ambiance. Strings swell, melodic bass bubbles, and piano sparkles, undergirding Jurado’s unmistakable voice, at once intimately present and ghostly, grounded in the here and now but capable, at any moment, of drifting off into the divinatory. Following threads established by 2021’s The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania, the album sees Jurado embracing his auteur era, penning vignettes that arrive with little fanfare and depart quicker than you might suspect, only to linger long after they wrap. Seeking a skeleton key to decipher the action is beside the point—Jurado’s songs are worlds meant to be lived in, not picked apart—but on the beatific single “What Happened To The Class Of ‘65?” the singer imagines himself as both the viewer and the viewed, the eye behind the camera and its subject. This emotional and spiritual transference animates Reggae Film Star. Like a masterful director, Jurado offers motivation to the listener, staring unblinkingly from the mise-en-scène in your mind. “Look into the camera,” he commands on “The Day Of The Robot,” “One more time with anger/And sadness/I believe you.” A quarter-century in, Jurado remains gripped by his visions and driven by an unmatched creative drive. Reggae Film Star is one of Damien Jurado’s finest works to date, a stunning new feature from one of indie rock’s most cinematic figures.
