17 Health Violations Found In This Charlotte Mexican Restaurant

CHARLOTTE, NC — Two Charlotte-area mexican restaurants saw their health grades drop recently after kitchen inspections found brake fluid stored in the kitchen, moldy food, flies and employees improperly washing their hands, according to Mecklenburg County public health officials.

County health officials recently inspected 113 restaurants in the Charlotte-metro area. Of those restaurants, one received a "B" health grade and one a “C”:

- Mi Tierrita, 1125 E. Sugar Creek Road — 83/ B
- Las Meras Tortas, 5661 Farm Pond Lane — 77/ C
A May 31 inspection as Las Meras Tortas documented 13 violations for infractions ranging from employees handling raw chicken before attempting to handle bread and employees washing gloves instead of their hands, to food with no date marks and kept at improper temperatures.
At Mi Tierrita, 17 violations were documented during an inspection, including beer stored in the handwashing sink, moldy ham and hotdogs in a reach in cooler, raw eggs stored above salsa, a bottle of brake fluid stored on the clean equipment rack and flies inside the restaurant.
