1. 911 call at 4 am leads to a homicide on West Trade Street in uptown, CMPD says (charlotteobserver.com) — Police are investigating two separate fatal shootings in Charlotte over Labor Day weekend, including one early Sunday on West Trade Street in uptown near Johnson & Wales University. Another man was killed Saturday on Mereview Court in south Charlotte, and detectives are asking anyone with information on either case to contact CMPD's Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
   

2. Mobility Safety Fest (thecharlottepost.com) — Charlotte residents are invited to the free Mobility Safety Fest at Clanton Park on Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m., hosted by the city's transportation department. You can learn about safer biking, driving, and walking, explore Vision Zero efforts, and connect with partners like Mecklenburg County Public Health and Trips for Kids, all focused on making Charlotte's streets safer for everyone.
   

3. Children's Tumor Foundation NF Walk (thecharlottepost.com) — Charlotte families can join the Children's Tumor Foundation NF Walk at Park Road Park on October 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event raises awareness and research funds for neurofibromatosis and schwannomatosis, offering a family-friendly way for local supporters, patients, and friends to connect, walk together, and help speed progress toward better treatments.
   

4. 'Barrage' of gunfire at north Charlotte home leaves woman injured, neighbors shaken (wbtv.com) — A woman was wounded when a home on Grass Ridge Drive in north Charlotte was riddled with bullets late Wednesday night, with seven people inside, including an 11-year-old boy who was not hurt. Neighbors described diving for cover and say repeated shootings over the years have them calling for more police patrols and feeling increasingly unsafe in the area.
   

5. I waited for 3 hours to try DaBaby's new Charlotte restaurant. Was it worth it? (charlotteobserver.com) — A new DaBaby-backed spot, No Knife Chicken & Waffles on Atando Avenue, just opened in Charlotte and drew three-hour lines in the late-summer heat. A local food writer sampled the pricey waffles and wings, found the flavors strong but the wait and cost hard to justify, and shares menu highlights, prices, and what to expect if you go soon.
