6 NC Employers Among Best For Diversity In US: Forbes

CHARLOTTE, NC — Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte is the best employer for diversity in North Carolina, while Chicago-based investment company Northern Trust is No. 1 in the United States, according to a new set of rankings released by Forbes on Tuesday. Five other North Carolina companies made the list, including three other employers that ranked among the top 100.

To compile the rankings, Forbes worked with research firm Statista. Forbes explains that Statista surveyed 30,000 U.S. employers in August of last year, asking questions about diversity, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and disability. Statista also looked at factors like the gender split of companies' management teams and boards and the gap in diversity perceptions at a company.

The North Carolina employers that made the list are:

• No. 19, Carolinas HealthCare System, Healthcare & Social, Charlotte
• No. 83, Novant Health, Healthcare & Social, Winston-Salem
• No. 87, Compass Group, Healthcare & Social, Charlotte
• No. 100, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, Education, Raleigh
• No. 161, Duke Energy, Utilities, Charlotte
• No. 194, Ingersoll Rand, Semiconductors, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Technology Hardware & Equipment, Davidson

According to Forbes, these are the top 10 companies for diversity in the U.S.:

3. Levy, Chicago
4. Intuit, Mountain View, California
5. Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts
6. Principal Financial Group, Des Moines, Iowa
