Huntersville man charged with murder after wife dies from strangulation, police say (wbtv.com) — A Huntersville man has been charged with second-degree murder after police say he strangled his wife at their McGinnis Lane home and she later died in the hospital. Officers first responded on September 22, and upgraded charges followed her October 1 death; investigators are still piecing together what happened and are asking anyone with information to contact Huntersville Police or Crime Stoppers.

NC By Train modifies October schedules for major regional events (wsoctv.com) — If you're planning to ride NC By Train to Charlotte or Raleigh later this month, expect special schedules and extra stops for the State Fair, Lexington Barbecue Festival, and a Panthers home game. Trains will add fairground and Lexington stops and adjust times, including an earlier morning departure and evening return for Panthers fans on October 25.

Accidental east Charlotte apartment fire caused by 'unattended cooking': CFD (qcnews.com) — Charlotte firefighters rescued a person from a third-floor window during an accidental cooking-related apartment fire on Magnolia Hill Drive in east Charlotte Friday evening. No injuries were reported, but damage is estimated at $300,000, and the Charlotte Fire Department is urging residents to stay in the kitchen while cooking, keep flammables away from stoves, and maintain working smoke alarms.
