Airline Worker Goes To Jail For TSA Fight At Charlotte Airport

An American Airlines employee who prosecutors said tried to force his way through the TSA checkpoint, was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A 31-year-old man who attempted to force his way through airport security at Charlotte Douglas International Airport last year has been sentenced to 14 months in prison and two years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Jordan Lee Moore, who is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was sentenced April 20 after pleading guilty for his role in two separate altercations with TSA agents at the Charlotte airport on March 30, 2017, when he was then an employee of American Airlines.

During sentencing, the judge presiding over the case remarked on the importance of respecting airport security personnel and maintaining proper decorum at the airport.

According to documents presented in court, the first incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. when Moore initially tried to force his way through a TSA Pre-Check security lane without authorization and then became combative with security officers by using “threats and racially derogatory terms,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of North Carolina said in a statement.

Moore was ordered to leave the airport and was told by TSA and Charlotte police officers that he could not fly out of the Charlotte airport.

Around two hours later, Moore returned to the airport and attempted to get through security again. Despite warnings from airport security personnel, Moore ignored their orders to leave the airport, “used explicit and threatening terms,” and again attempted to proceed through the airport security checkpoint. When approached by an officer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Moore violently resisted arrest.

“Moore was eventually arrested and continued acting in a combative nature, even after he was placed in a police car,” the federal prosecutor statement said.

Moore, who is currently in federal custody, will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
