Arrest Made In Case Of Murder Victim Discovered By A Jogger

One week after a jogger discovered the body of a 51-year-old man on Milton Road near Joyce Drive, police make an arrest.

CHARLOTTE, NC — One week after a jogger discovered the body of a homicide victim while on a morning run in east Charlotte, police made an arrest, charging a 29-year-old man with murder and armed robbery.

The male victim, who was identified as 51-year-old Jose Mario Chicas, was found by the jogger shortly before 7 a.m. on June 21 in the 1900 block of Milton Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Chicas was pronounced dead on the scene, CMPD said.

According to a police report, CMPD detectives identified Jessie Daniel Benton, 29, as the primary suspect in the case and obtained warrants for his arrest. He was located and arrested without incident, according to CMPD.
