WalletHub recently released its 2019's Best Places for Halloween report. Here's how our city fared.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Halloween is right around the corner and finding the right place to celebrate the holiday can be tricky, especially in the Charlotte metro region. That’s according to the personal finance website, WalletHub, which recently released it 2019’s Best Places for Halloween.

Out of 100 cities, Charlotte ranked a nightmarish No. 60 overall for best places to go on Halloween.

  • Total Score: 47.96
  • Trick-or-Treater-Friendliness: 65
  • Halloween Fun: 36
  • Halloween Weather: 23

New York City ranked as the best place to be on Halloween in the nation, according to WalletHub, followed by Los Angeles and Boston.

The Big Apple also finished in the top spot for most costume and candy stores per capita. Denver took home the unfortunate last place position for the worst projected weather forecast on Halloween.

The list compared 100 of the largest cities in the United States across 21 key metrics of Halloween friendliness, ranging from the number of potential trick-or-treating spots, to the number of Halloween stores per capita, to the forecasted levels of rain on Oct. 31.

Each relevant metric was listed with its corresponding weight and the cities were subsequently graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the maximum Halloween experience.

For people on the quest for the perfect pumpkin themed holiday, Birmingham, Alabama, isn’t the place for you. The city finished dead-last in the rankings, with Memphis and Baton Rouge rounding out the bottom three.

The average household in the United States is projected to spend $86.27 on Halloween related expenses in 2019, according to the National Retail Federation. That comes to an incredible $8.8 billion in total, which is the third highest amount in the past 15 years.

  3. Boston: 60.69
  4. San Diego: 60.64
  5. Las Vegas: 60.60
  6. Chicago: 59.84
  7. Miami: 59.17
  8. Philadelphia: 59.07
  9. San Francisco: 59.04
  10. San Jose: 58.96
